Thvn "Pleśń" - Recenzja

 

    Jak wskazuje nazwa tego bloga, każdy nowy polski projekt cieszy, a tym razem to dodatkowo "Thvn" wypełzło z wrocławskich pieczar, więc tym bardziej czuję się w obowiązku by kilka słów o tym projekcie powiedzieć. Jednak odnoszę wrażenie, że kilka słów może być zdecydowanie za mało jak dla tych 34 minut grania, które usłyszymy na debiutanckiej płycie "Pleśń".

    Płyta ta dla mnie była prawdziwą jazdą bez trzymanki. Na pewno większość kojarzy ten moment w swoim życiu gdzie otrzymuje niesamowitą dawkę adrenaliny, morda się cieszy, chce więcej, ale całą tę celebrację przerywają nieuniknione mdłości. Nie było by to niczym dziwnym zważając na fakt, że mamy do czynienia z black metalowym tworem, a wrzaski, jęki, stęki i rzygowiny powinny być pierwszymi rzeczami jakie skojarzymy. Pierwszy utwór wzbudził we mnie mieszane uczucia. Niby spodziewałem się blacku, ale nie aż takiego poziomu awangardy. Mnóstwo punku, wokal taki niezdecydowany do tego stopnia, że w pewnych momentach podchodziło to pod scream. Gitary takie dziwnie stłumione. Tyle odnośnie pierwszego wrażenia. Za to już w kolejnym kawałku "Disappointment of Creation " dostaję to co lubię najbardziej. Soczyste i agresywne riffy, oplatane zachrypłym, oślizłym do granic wokalu, który na miano piwnicy zasługuje. Żadnego rozczarowania. Ale mówiąc tylko o dwóch pierwszych to prawie jakbym nic nie powiedział, a dzieje się jeszcze dużo. Właśnie za dużo jak na jedna płytę. Słychać, że jeszcze eksperymentują, szukają pewnego kierunku, przez co płyta stała się chaotyczna w złego tego słowa znaczeniu. Jest kilka świetnych pomysłów, jak i kilka gorszych. Miksując wszystko wychodzi taki typowy nowofalowy twór. Mógłbym wymienić utwory, które mi pasowały, jak i te, które wręcz przeciwnie. Niestety ale decydując się na taką konstrukcję, wszystko stało się bardzo trudne do zapamiętania. Można pochwalić wokal, który jest fantastyczną mieszanką wszystkiego co można znaleźć w black metalu i to zasługuje na duży plus. Perkusja również stoi na wysokim poziomie, nakłada odpowiednio zbalansowany ciężar. Za to w przypadku gitar i basu brakuje trochę zgrania i często wychodzi to nierówno. W tym całym chaosie na szczęście nie słychać tego tak mocno.

    Potencjał widzę duży. Atmosfera całości jest gęsta, duszna, agresywna, nieprzyjazna, ale na pewno nie w taki sposób piwniczna do jakiego ja jestem przyzwyczajony. Dużo mieszanych inspiracji, świetny wokal. Nie jest to koniecznie spójne, ale jest doskonałą furtką do dalszego nagrywania. Koncertów na pewno wyczekuję, bo z autopsji wiem, że taka formuła sprawdza się doskonale na żywo i nie męczy. Zastanawiała mnie tylko jedna rzecz. Po chuj dawać tytuł płyty po polsku, jak nie ma ani jednego polskiego utworu, nawet choćby tytułowego?

    As the blog’s name suggests, every new Polish project is a joy and this time it was additionally “Thvn” crawling out of the caves in Wrocław. So that’s why this time I feel obliged to say a few words about this project. However, I have the impression that a few words may be definitely not enough for the 34 minutes of playing that we can hear on the debut album “Pleśń”.

    For me, this album was a real roller coaster ride. Certainly, most people associate this moment in their lives when they receive an amazing dose of adrenaline, enjoying everything and wanting more and more, but all this celebration is interrupted by the inevitable nausea. This wouldn't be surprising considering the fact that we're dealing with a black metal thing, and screams, groans, grunts and vomits should be the first things we think of. I have mixed feelings about the first track. I'd expected some black metal, but not that level of avant-garde. Lots of punk, vocals so indecisive to the point that it was almost scream in some parts. And the guitars so strangely muffled… So much for the first impression. But in the next track "Disappointment of Creation" I get what I like the most, more precisely juicy and aggressive riffs accompanied by hoarse, slimy vocals that deserve to be called ‘the basement’. No disappointment at all. But just talking about the first two is almost like saying nothing, and there's still a lot more going on. Kinda like just too much for one album. You can hear that they’re still experimenting, looking for a certain direction, which made the album chaotic but in a bad way. There are some great ideas, as well as some worse ones. Out of all this ‘mixture’ comes this typical new wave creation. I could list songs that suited me as well as those that were quite the opposite. Unfortunately, if you decided to choose such a construction, everything would be difficult to remember. Vocals are a fantastic mix of everything that can be found in black metal and it deserves a big plus, drums are also at a high level, with a well-balanced weight. On the other hand, in the case of guitars and bass, there is a lack of harmony and it often turns out uneven. Thankfully, in the midst of chaos you can't hear it that much.

    To be honest, I see lots of potential. The whole atmosphere is dense, stuffy, aggressive, unfriendly, but definitely not in the ‘basement way’ I'm used to. Lots of mixed influences, outstanding vocals. Not necessarily consistent, but it's a great gateway into further recording. I'm definitely looking forward to the concerts, because I know from experience that this formula works perfectly live and doesn't get tired. There is only one thing that puzzles me. Why the fuck give the album title in Polish when there's not a single Polish track, not even the title one?
